Jubilee Portrait of Queen Victoria Jubilee Portrait of Queen Victoria, 1887
artist: E. F. Geflowski
location: on the grounds of the Istana
patron: 'the Chinese community of Singapore'

The work was recently unveiled to the public in a new setting on the grounds of the Istana, official residence of the Head of State of Singapore. According to the accompanying story, the work was for many years in the Victoria Room of the Istana, renamed the State Room after independence. It was moved to Victoria Concert Hall and then the National Museum (where I saw it under wraps in th mid-1980s).

The work was restored in 1995. The newspaper stories don't mention that it needed to be restored because its nose was knocked off. Apparently this occured during some nationalist demonstration or other, but I don't have a reference to the exact date.
