Philadelphia project gets good bad review | Jun 13, 2004

An interesting review of public art initiatives in suburban Philadelphia, US. Mentions that Philadelphia has another one of the "fibreglass animal" projects, this one creating painted dogs... But most of the projects get a bad report card, but for good reasons.

India's leading sand sculptor responds to events | Jun 7, 2004

Sand art is apparently a thriving subculture with global celebrities and events. India's leading exponent, Sudarshan Patnaik, 27, has recently completed a nine-foot high sculpture depicting the torture of prisoners by the American guards at the Abu Gharib prison in Baghdad. This is public art, on the beach at the temple town of Puri, Orissa. It will be washed away with the high tide.

Singapore public art by the Waterfront | Jun 5, 2004

Sunday afternoon by the waterfront at the Esplanade. Lots of public art, and many members of the public. It was a fine afternoon. Visible (barely) in this photo are Han Sai Por's Seeds, a SingArt lion, somebody doing sidewalk art and the inflatable plastic cones, by Symphonie Conique. They "sway to the rhythm of people walking by".

Baltimore gets a Borofsky | Jun 5, 2004

You know, those tall cut out figures, like the Hammering Man of Frankfurt, Germany and Seattle Washington. Check this story in the Baltimore Sun. It includes a good summary of some of the previous Borofsky controversies, and photos of the installation of the new work, Male/Female. Follow this link for more stories on the piece.

a public bench for Coventry | Jun 2, 2004

A new project by French artist Jochen Gertz. This is a work that you can add your own label or plaque to. With your own label, but one that is allusive and elusory. How nice! See Gertz's website for more of his provocative projects.

Just found the website of the Yu Yu Yang Foundation. Click on the headline for the link. Be prepared, there is lots of Flash and many annoying midi tunes. But plenty of information and images. All in Chinese.
