Asian Public Art News
Art and similar interventions in public space. Coverage moves outwards from Singapore through Asia to the rest of the world. Like nothing else, the idea of "public art" exposes the contradiction inherent in our ideas of "the public" and of "art".

  the stencil arrives
OK - It's a big boom in contemporary art, but who would have thought that Banksy would now be commanding prices of £57,600 at Christie's? This article in the Herald Tribune looks at Banksy's work from the point of view of Paris, and stencil artists like Blek Le Rat, who has been using stencils for years. According to the article, there is a tension between the stencil artists and taggers, hiphop-influenced graffiti artists. Blek had a major show in London, and Mis Tic is having a show and a new book published in France.
